The Built In Continues

Once all the pieces have gotten their first coat of paint, they come back out into the main workroom where they get sanded and wiped down and sent back in for their next coat of paint....

The Birth of A Built In

I thought I would take this day before another day off, to show how exactly a piece begins....
The initial cabinets come in the form of raw material, both plywood and solid wood and must be cut, glued and shaped.

By this time, Steve has done the layout and gone over my drawing....
Then we all go to work on the pieces...

Assembling the pieces...

They go into the finish room where they start to look like real furniture...This one is going to have a painted finish of "Lady Finger" with a glaze of "Van Buran Brown" and a final finish of provincial.

Some thoughts on color

Don't be color phobic...

Whether choosing a color for your new custom furniture, revamping your tired kitchen cabinets (more about that in a future post) or repainting a room, be open to the new, deeper color trends. At Stowebound, we use only Benjamin Moore for our painted furniture.

There are many reasons for this, but the main ones are coverage, durability and depth of color. We will gladly make samples for customers or you can log on to www.benjaminmoore.com for some more ideas. I also offer in home consultation once you become a Stowebound customer.

I offer specialty finishes as well.... Explore the possibilities of glazing or antiquing!
Think about putting a lighter tone of your wall color on your ceiling!
And every room should have one piece of black furniture in it!

Welcome

Welcome to Stowebound Custom Furniture's new blog! We are in the process of developing a website, but for now we will be using this blog to keep you up to date.

Who are we?

We are Barbra and Stephen Glasmire and we are the founders and owners of Stowebound Custom Furniture. Since 1993, we have been making custom furniture in our shop in Pennsylvania. Stephen has been building furniture and cabinets for 44 years. Yes, that means he started at the age of 13. Barbra designs, quotes and finishes the cabinets. Steve is the master cabinetmaker and can create anything that you can dream up.

Where did the name come from?

In short, Steve had been building furniture on the side for many years and having always planned on retiring in Vermont, we said that we were Stowe bound. Upon both being left in a state of unemployment, we chose to try our hand at full time cabinetry. And.....15 years later we have come a long way from our garage.

What is custom furniture?

Custom means that you can tell us exactly the size and look that you want. No more, will you have to settle on a cabinet that is not quite what you were looking for. We can work from pictures or we can sit down with pencil and paper and sketch till we get just the design and size and color that you want. Each piece is one of a kind. Since we do not work from templates, every piece is hand made and therefore, never exactly duplicated.

Why should I buy custom furniture?

There are many good reasons to choose custom furniture from Stowebound.
  1. We can meet your exact needs and wants. At Stowebound, we can make furniture that is the right size, color, style, and design for your house. We take out all of the guesswork of whether a piece of furniture is going to fit in your room or is going to match your home decor. If you have not been able to find the furniture you want, then you should come to Stowebound.
  2. We make sure that all of our pieces are of the highest quality. Stowebound takes great pride in making durable, lasting, beautiful furniture. These pieces are tomorrow's heirlooms. Everything from Stowebound is hand-crafted from the finest woods, paints, and stains. No particle board, no automated machinery, no mass-produced pieces - only the best for your home.
  3. We can make furniture at great prices. Our motto is "Custom furniture at uncustom prices." Because we can work directly with our customers, we can offer very competitive prices that typically beat the most well-known furniture companies.
Why should I read your blog?

We plan to use this blog for three things right now.

First, the blog is a way to see our work and for you contact us. We are available by phone or by email. If you are interested in customer furniture for your home or office, we invite you to call or write us and we will be glad to answer your questions, create a design, and give you a price quote. Plus, we'll put up some of our favorite and most popular pieces to give you an idea of what we can do - and what might look great in your house!

Second, we will use the blog to offer design and decorating tips. There are ways to make any room or house look great. Check back on this blog for tips on the latest in decorating and fashion - popular colors, arranging a room, maximizing space, and new design trends.

Third, if you're a Stowebound customer, you'll be able to see updates on the progress we are making on your furniture. Watch as your furniture goes from design to finished piece, from the very first cut to the last stroke of paint. You can share the pictures with family and friends, too!

Thanks for visiting our blog. We want to earn your business and exceed your expectations.
